Submission to the BC Ministry of the Attorney General: Policy’s Intentions Paper
On March 11, 2026, Rise and West Coast LEAF made a join submission to the BC Ministry of Attorney General’s Policy Intentions Paper.
The Ministry of Attorney General’s Policy Intentions Paper was released in August 2025 regarding Phase 2 of the Family Law Act (FLA) Modernization Project. Overall, we are supportive of the Paper’s proposed reforms to the FLA, and we are grateful for the Ministry’s thorough and thoughtful work throughout this process. However, we also want to share three specific concerns with the proposed reforms before the Ministry introduces draft legislation to Cabinet. We recognize that the Ministry’s public engagement process has concluded, and as a result we have kept this submission brief.
Read our submission to hear more about our three concerns: family violence and protection orders, parenting assessments and reports, and section 39’s guardianship rules.
