Submission to Legal Aid BC: Lawyer Quality Assurance Framework
On January 30, 2026, Rise made a submission in response to Legal Aid BC’s (LABC) call on lawyer quality assurance frameworks.
The audit report by the Office of the Auditor General of British Columbia (the ‘Audit’) released on April 29, 2025, found that LABC currently has insufficient processes to ensure clients receive high-quality representation in a timely way. The call for submissions focuses on developing a quality assurance (QA) framework for monitoring the quality of legal representation. Given our work supporting clients with family law matters, our submission focuses specifically on QA within family law. Our submissions summarize our past research findings and recommendations on the need to improve the quality of LABC for survivors of family violence, and offers further ideas on how to address QA.
