$500,000 gift from J. Scott Stanley and family!

We are incredibly grateful to announce a $500,000 gift from J. Scott Stanley and family. This gift reflects a substantial investment in efforts to reduce gender-based violence, and to create a safer, more just and equal legal system for all. Scott and his family have shown their deep commitment to access to justice and to supporting survivors.

“My very first client was a woman fleeing abuse. She narrowly escaped her tormentor by fleeing in her car. She had no wallet, little gas and no plan. She drove aimlessly until she was almost out of gas. She was about to turn around and go home, when she spotted the firm where I worked. We don’t want these cars going home. We want them going to a place where their occupants will be safe. Rise is that place.” - J. Scott Stanley

As the only service of its kind in BC, without Rise’s work, many women and gender diverse people would have nowhere to turn. When they cannot access legal services, women may remain in violent relationships, lose parenting rights to their children, or abandon important economic entitlements like child support, spousal support, and property division. Funding helps us grow our services and meet the increasing need for support from survivors across the province. It ensures we can conduct our research and fund our systemic work and allows us to be flexible to meet community needs as they arise.

When they have no where else to go, clients come to Rise where they find support, empowerment, and safety, for themselves, and their children. As long as gender inequality exists Rise will exist and will work to improve the family justice system for all.
